Welcome to Ms. Hawes's First Grade class website!

My name is Ms. Hawes and I am so excited to be your teacher this year. We are going to do some fun things this year but we will also learn a lot. Even though we will be starting the year off remotely, this year will be engaging and productive.   First, let me tell you a little about myself. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and I’m the third oldest of eight children. I attended the University of Cincinnati (Bachelors) and The University of Mount St. Joseph (Master's).  I have two daughters Cionna Marie(15), and Stevie Nicole (8). This will be my seventh year as a primary teacher, and my fourth year teaching first grade.

Now let's discuss some of my expectations, In our virtual classroom students are expected to be Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. During our first week of school, we will define what this means during remote learning. We will continue to focus on higher-order thinking skills to develop on-level readers and writers.

Together we will work as a community to Rise like a PHOENIX, remember every day that "Today I will learn, Today I will listen, Today I will shine like the brightest star, Today YOU will achieve!

Love,

Ms. Charlene Hawes

Epic

Reading is the foundation for learning, maximizing opportunities in life, and advancing the pursuit of a well-balanced society. Reading for at least 20 minutes a day will help the brain make connections between the written and spoken word, widening vocabulary in the process. Epic! provides your child with the opportunity to read a large array of books.
