Hello everyone, and welcome to Mr. Moe's Math classes.

I am a lifelong learner who is passionate about helping others to become better teachers, and better learners. My goal as a teacher is to pass along the knowledge, methods, and enthusiasm that have been bestowed upon me by others. I began my career in education as a Special Education Pareducator, which allowed me to learn and implement a broad range of interventions and teaching methodoligies. I carried that experience with me as I became a licensed teacher. My experiences with professional development and classroom instruction have allowed me to continually improve so that I can have a positive impact on how students are educated.

My family and I are originally from Oregon, where we learned to enjoy the outdoors and to appreciate how everything is connected. All of us are dependent on the caring and kindness of others. I try to make sure that I am caring for every student in order to help them all be able to achieve their goals, and become capable adults who will positively impact their community.

My teaching career began in western Kansas, where I was fortunate enough to live in a community of immigrants. The majority of the families that I served were Hispanic, and came to the U.S. in order to build better lives for their children. I also served a number of families from African nations and Southeast Asia who also came to the U.S. to build better and safer lives. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to learn about so many different cultures, and look forward to learning about your families, and more about the history of Cincinnati.

Upcoming Absence

Hello parents and students,

I will be attending a funeral out of state this coming weekend and will be gone on Friday and Monday. Students will have review assignments in ALEKS and Study Island for both of those days. I will post instructions and expectations later this week. My Zoom classes will not occur on either day, but I will be checking-in on students with Go Guardian.

Take care,

Mr. Moe

5th Grade Math

For the Week of 9/28/2020:

MAP testing will Continue on Monday.
Students from 5-A will log into class at 9:00 am, and stay with me until 11:30.
They will go to their regular afternoon classes at the normal times.

Math MAP will finish on 9/28. Students will begin Science MAP testing on 9/29. Students who have not finished all MAP tests will be able to continue until 11:30 on 10/9.

Students will have activities on Study Island when they complete the MAP test. It is very important that students be on time, rest well the night before, and work in a quiet space without help so that we can have a true assessment of their abilities.

When testing ends for the week we will continue with our regular assignments. Due dates are visible in ALEKS once the assignment is delivered to students. We may not get to all of the planned lessons this week due to testing.

Lesson 1.5 in ALEKS:
I can understand place value in decimal numbers.

Lesson 1.6 in ALEKS:
I can read and write decimals in standard form, expanded form, and word form.

Lesson 1.7 in ALEKS:
I can compare two decimals to the thousandths place.

Lesson 1.8 in ALEKS:

Lesson 1.7 in ALEKS
I can use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
