7th Grade World History

Course Description

A) Current Unit of Study: Learning Fair & Portfolio
Unit Essential Questions:
1- How is an information paper constructed?
2- How is a compare and contrast paper constructed?
3- How do projects help students learn?
 
Phoenix offers an interactive and comprehensive survey course in World History that follows the Ohio Social Studies Model Curriculum on World History.  This course engages and inspires students to learn about ancient cultures and the impact on modern societies today. Middle school students enrolled in this course will closely examine the changes and influences brought about by those ancient civilizations and their contributions to modern societies today (i.e. Ancient Greece, Rome, and China).  Students will conduct inquiries on the success and failures of ancient cultures and how we have learned from the past and examine the potential impacts for our future. Over the course of four quarters, course content encourages students to think critically and carefully about the challenges and opportunities facing the planet's global community in the 21st century.

2021 Kahoot Spring Break Challenge

Spring challenge is here!  Students will go to google classroom to get the link for the Kahoot Spring Challenge.  Top two (2) scorers will be able to select a gift box prize from the link below.  Tie scorers will play in a run-off competition. Go to google classroom to get the challenge link.

Dear 7th and 8th Grade Students and Parents,

            Spring break is finally here!  Attached you will find the 7th or 8th grade social studies spring break packet.  The break packets are oriented around student analysis of primary and secondary documents, a critical social studies skill set.  These documents will require students to apply critical thinking skills.  So, please don’t rush through the assignments.  The reading packets will be part of the 3rd quarter grade (project grade) and is due by March online to the google classroom site.

            The 7th and 8th grade packets provide introductions on the topics and type of inquiry students will make in their content areas. 7th grade packet is an introduction to Islam, the next unit to be covered in class. The 8th grade packet helps students analyze the first ten amendments, The Bill of Rights.  Completion of these packets will enhance and sharpen student understanding, critical thinking, and appreciation for these topics since all of us are impacted by the effects of events in history associated with the content areas.

            The reading packets will be posted to the student google classroom sites.  All students need to do is open-up the assignment on google classroom. Here are the 2020 – 2021 social studies classroom site passwords:

Remember parents and students, the packets are due the first day back from break…NO EXCUSES!  I have included my email address above, so please feel free to contact me should you have questions

NWEA MAP Assessments

NWEA Map Testing.  Parents, students have completed the NWEA Winter map testing.  Ask your student what their scores were compared to their MAP goals.  If you have any questions, you may contact any of your child's teachers. The NWEA Spring testing dates will be announced when known.

Kahoot's New Years Challenge

Kahoot's New Year's Challenge is posted to google classroom. Students will complete the Kahoots Find the Main Idea Challenge by Jan 4th. Students with the top 2 scores (7th and 8th combined challenge) will be able to select a gift box prize from the website: https://www.hipkits.com/
Gift box selected must be $40 or less. Students can only play once.
