Course Description

Amplify CKLA is our reading curriculum chosen by Phoenix Community Learning Center.  Amplify CKLA is based on a whole group/small group daily participation plan. Whole group learning opportunities occur daily with the introduction of key focus points.  The students will then practice these key focus points during the week independently and in small groups while guided reading groups take place with the teacher.  Independent/small group practice will include fluency, spelling, phonics, and phonemic awareness skills.

Lesson 5 - Native Americans of the Southwest, Part 1

Today we will use spelling patterns and generalizations in writing words spelling with /ə/ spelled ‘a’ and ‘e’,  describe cause and effect events of the Native Americans of the Southwest, and ask and answer questions requiring literal recall and understanding of the details of “Alemeda, the Basket Weaver” by explicitly referring to the text.

Lesson 6 - Alemeda, the Basket Weaver

Today we will use spelling patterns and generalizations in writing words with the /ə/ sound spelled ‘al,’ ‘le,’ and ‘el,’ and /sh/ + /ə/ + /n/ spelled ‘tion,’  closely read “Alemeda, the Basket Weaver,” read aloud stories from the Native American Reader using their own voice to make the story come to life, and form and use plural possessive nouns and use a beginning dictionary to determine key words.
