Description
8th Grade American History. PCLC 8th grade American History guides students to develop their understanding on how the United States was formed. This class will cover the beginnings of America to the Reconstruction Era. This course is designed to meet the Ohio Depart of Education Social Studies Content Standards for 8th grade. Students will focus on a variety of topics and eras including colonization, westward expansions, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. 
 
Study Island is the main resource used for this curriculum.

Learning Target: Explain the history and impact of a Constitutional Amendment

Task:
1. Students will present a research project on a Constitutional Amendment.

Tasks
1.Students will show their weekly review assignment to their parent or Guardian and have them sign the sheet.  
 
2. Students will return the sheet on Monday.
 
3. Students will read the writing prompt and construct a PAST Statement using the graphic organizer on the back of the review sheet.  Students were issued the review sheet in class.

Task. Students will complete the reading and answer questions 1 thru 4 on a word document.  For questions 1 and 2, use the R.A.C.E. writing scaffold.

Holiday Break Packet - Unit Review

Students in grades 7th and 8th will have a break packet to complete.  It is a review of the learning targets in the current units.
 
Packet will be handed out to each student on Nov 22nd during release.  Students not attending will be able to access the packet on google classroom.  It must be turned in on paper.

Fall Kahoot Challenge

Task: Students will participate in the Fall Kahoot Challenge as a review of Primary and Secondary sources.  Student with the highest score from 7th or 8th grade will be able to select a gift box (see my home page for the link). YOU CAN ONLY DO THE CHALLENGE ONCE.

For your score to be accepted, you must use your first and last name - NO ALIASES.  They will be deleted.

Kahoot Challenge must be completed by November 22 by 5 PM for your score to be accepted.

Task: Students will complete the reading passed out for Lesson 3: North America Peoples and will use R.A.C.E. to answer the question on page 12: Writing prompt - What evidence might connect the Mound Builders with the Maya and Aztec?

Background: Studying history requires students to know the difference between primary and secondary sources. Primary sources are actual historical elements which give us who are alive today a look at the past which has influenced the present. Secondary sources tell us about the past from studying historical events and artifacts, and analyzing those events and artifacts for the why behind past events and human activity.
 
Tasks:
1-Students will review the video below from class.
2-Create a google document in the panel to your right and record your answers from the homework practice sheet. If you don't see it, look for a create tab, scroll down the options until you see "docs". When you click on docs, a new window will open with the document.
3-Put your name and date on the google doc with your answers.
4-When you are done, click the turn-in button on the google document in the top right of the page and submit your answers.

This assignment is on google classroom, and student work must be turned in on google classroom.  Do not email any work assignments.  All work must be original and turned in on the secure medium it was assigned on.
 
Task: Students will complete the worksheet by reading each scenario.
1. Determine the likely outcome of each event
2. State your evidence from the text.
3. Students will create a word document to record your answers, and then turn-in on google classroom.  Let me know if you need help turning in your document.
